Special Agent in Charge, Matt Anderson, began serving as the Bureau Chief for the Governor’s School Safety Bureau in May of 2024. Prior to this assignment, SAC Anderson served in multiple capacities with the Division of Narcotics Enforcement, the Division of Criminal Investigation, and the Iowa State Patrol. With thirty plus years of service in the Iowa Department of Public Safety, SAC Anderson is primarily focused on establishing positive working relationships among all school safety partners. SAC Anderson believes a collaborative community approach to school safety is the most proactive step available for addressing school violence. The Governor’s School Safety Bureau (GSSB) was established in June of 2022 to assist public, non-public, and independent schools in preventing school violence. The mission of this bureau was assigned to the State of Iowa, Department of Public Safety. In March of 2023, GSSB launched Safe and Sound Iowa, a free, anonymous, school threat reporting application for Iowa schools. Safe and Sound Iowa is monitored 24/7/365 by law enforcement communication centers and GSSB staff. GSSB continues to advance school safety in Iowa through funding, training, equipment, and legislative action.
