Dr. Dewey Cornell is a forensic clinical psychologist and Professor of Education at the University of Virginia. During his 40+ year career, he has worked extensively in the evaluation and treatment of violent offenders and conducted research on school safety programs. In 2001, he led development of the Comprehensive School Threat Assessment Guidelines (CSTAG) as an evidence-based practice which is now used in thousands of schools nationwide.

The Comprehensive School Threat Assessment Guidelines (CSTAG) and Law Enforcement
Critics have campaigned for the nationwide removal of law enforcement from schools. In response, this presentation describes the valuable role of school resource officers in behavioral threat assessment using the CSTAG model. Across multiple studies there is consistent evidence of the safety, effectiveness, and fairness of the CSTAG process, including law enforcement outcomes.Participants will learn the 5-step CSTAG process, the 4 classification outcomes, and the role of SROs.
