Dr. Patricia McLean is a dedicated educator with more than 24 years of experience serving in a variety of leadership roles, including Mathematics Teacher, Chief Communications Officer, Grant Director, and student support administrator. She currently serves as the Director of Safe Harbor for Scotland County Schools, where she leads initiatives focused on student wellness, violence prevention, and community engagement.
Dr. McLean earned a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and a master’s degree in School Administration from University of North Carolina at Pembroke. She also earned a master’s degree in Middle Grades Mathematics and a doctorate in Educational Leadership from Fayetteville State University.
Throughout her career, Dr. McLean has received numerous state and national awards for excellence during her 15 years as a public relations professional in education. In 2017, she was nominated and selected to participate in the inaugural Aspiring Superintendents Program, representing Nash-Rocky Mount Public Schools. In 2018, she was honored as Administrator of the Year for the same school district.
Over the past four years, Dr. McLean has focused her work on student support services aimed at reducing community violence in rural communities through proactive intervention and prevention strategies. Under her leadership, students have gained access to critical resources, including school-based mental health therapists, school psychologists, the Too Good for Drugs and Violence curriculum, the G.R.E.A.T. (Gang Resistance Education and Training) Program, and restorative practices initiatives.
Her efforts have expanded beyond the school system through the community-wide Stop the Violence initiative, which connects students, families, and community members with educational resources and support services designed to prevent violence and promote safer, healthier communities.
