SESSIONS

So you have a plan…
State required “All Hazards” plans can be cumbersome and are often developed without input from the staff expected to respond in an emergency. At the same time, professional development activities rarely focus on school emergencies, and when they do they tend to be narrow in scope. This session will ask you to reconsider the possibilities and steps you can take to ensure readiness. To examine the wide-range of emergencies that educators may face and the steps we can take to prepare to respond thoughtfully and decisively.
Learning Objectives
- To consider the wide-range of emergency situations that can impact a school community.
- To examine school safety related trainings and the ways we can better prepare certified and non-certified personnel.
- To identify the ways we can train staff to respond instead of react in a crisis
Participant Outcomes
- Participants will be prepared to re-evaluate the effectiveness of current emergency guides in terms of staff response.
- Participants will recognize the need to facilitate table top activities for a wide range of emergency scenarios at multiple levels.
- Participants will reconsider current response plans with a focus on the hours and days after the onset of an emergency.
