Dr. Beth J. Sanborn is a nationally recognized school safety leader, keynote speaker, author, and retired law enforcement officer with more than two decades of experience at the intersection of education, public safety, and youth development.
Dr. Sanborn currently serves as the School Safety Coordinator for Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, overseeing safety efforts for 22 public school districts as well as private, religious, and higher-education institutions. She is also the President of the Pennsylvania Association of School Resource Officers (PASRO) and a certified instructor for the National Association of School Resource Officers (NASRO).
A retired police officer and former School Resource Officer and Juvenile Detective, Dr. Sanborn brings a practitioner’s lens to school safety, emphasizing relationship-based prevention, early intervention, and the critical role of trust in keeping students safe. She is the author of The Missing Piece: Your School Resource Officer as an Ally in Parenting and Piecing It Together: School Resource Officers as Allies in Education, both national bestsellers in the Child Advocacy and Family Law category.
Dr. Sanborn has testified before the Pennsylvania House Education and Health Committees, regularly advises policymakers and school leaders, and is known for translating complex safety concepts into practical, human-centered strategies schools can actually implement. She is also the creator of the nationally delivered program Hidden, High, & Hammered, which educates educators, parents, and first responders on emerging youth substance use trends.
In 2025, Dr. Sanborn was selected to deliver a TEDx talk titled The Small Habit that Transforms School Safety, further amplifying her message that effective school safety is built through everyday relationships, shared responsibility, and intentional collaboration.
Dr. Sanborn holds a Doctor of Public Administration degree and remains deeply committed to helping schools build cultures of safety where students are known, supported, and protected.
