Katherine’s background is in education for 19 years as a teacher, principal, educational consultant and a mentor to students/youth, teachers and principals in NM. She holds a Pre-k through 12th grade administrator licensure, K through 8th grade level III NM teacher’s licensure and a Dual Masters in Educational leadership and Administration. She now is educating our New Mexico families and communities as an Educational Consultant and Community Safety Awareness Coordinator.
As a past NM Office of the Attorney General Educational Consultant and Special Programs Coordinator, her areas of focus were supporting New Mexico’s most vulnerable populations, including at-risk youth, the elderly, individuals with disabilities, and our Indigenous communities. As a Community Safety Awareness Coordinator, she developed and executed key initiatives targeting New Mexican families and communities. This work included leading projects and programs through interagency collaborations and working with key stakeholders across NM communities and subject matter areas. She worked with the STOP grant and STOP grant trainer, Angelique Sedillo to train staff, students and parents on ways to prevent or stop school violence. Katherine and Angelique have become Nation student and school safety conference presenters the past few years.

Cyber Bullying and Online Safety: Creating Positive Digital Citizenship with our Students
Attendees will understand cyber bullying, sextortion, grooming & child exploitation. Learn best practices on implementing school safety initiatives.
Learning Objectives
- Participants will understand cyber bullying, the consequences that can affect someone's future, and laws on what charges can be prosecutable.
- Learn ways to educate, inform and support our youth with positive digital citizenship & have online safety through the take away tools and resources.
- Participants will learn ways to protect students & their own personal information and keep it private from strangers, predators, and online hackers.
- Participants will learn how to support our youth on disconnecting from negativity online.
- Participants will learn best practices with implementing school safety initiatives at a school district and community level.
Participant Outcomes
- After the presentation participants will be able to identify the warning signs in cyber bullying and know how to communicate this to students
- Participants will be able to define cyber bullying, sextortion and online grooming with tips on communicating these topics to parents and community.
- Participants can advocate and discuss ways school districts can work with their community and local law enforcement on school safety initiatives.
- Participants will have resources to use and discuss with staff on Social Media impacts on our youths mental health and social and emotional learning.
