Mr. Rodney La Point, MSN, RN obtained his master’s degree in nursing education from University of Texas at Arlington and is currently a Nursing Education and Practice Specialist for National Association of School Nurses (NASN). Mr. La Point is NASN’s Accredited Provider Program Director for the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) to maintain the association’s accreditation status for Nursing Continuing Professional Development including the online learning education and is NASN’s lead nurse planner for the annual conferences. He is also an Associate Professor at the Illa Faye Miller School of Nursing at the University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio, TX.
He has 24 Years as a Registered Nurse in Texas, and 20 Years in School Nursing. He is a former School Nursing Consultant for the Texas Education Service Center Region 20 in San Antonio.

"The School Nurse's Role in Disaster Preparedness and Response"
Participants will develop an understanding of the role the school nurse can fill when developing a disater response plan.

- Verbalize the value of including School Nurses/ Health Services in planning.
- Understand similarities between the Nursing Process and the Disaster Planning process.
- Identify School Nurse specific roles in the Disaster Preparedness Process.

- Explain the role the school nurse can play as a member of the development of the emergency operations plan.
- Describe the similarities between the nursing process and the disaster planning process.
- Discuss the value of preparing to address the physical and mental health needs during a disaster in the planning phases.
