Preventing these acts and improving school safety has become a goal for many jurisdictions. In examining radicalization and targeted violence in schools and other public spaces, multi-disciplinary teams have been identified as a promising practice. Cross-System approaches include law enforcement, school-based providers, administrators, and outside mental health professionals and service providers to assess risk, determine appropriate countermeasures, and connect vulnerable youth on the pathway to violence to pro-social support and services before they engage in criminal activity. In partnership with schools, community mental health professionals, local service providers, and subject matter experts such as Autism Services and Programs, the Aurora Police Department's co-responder (Crisis Response Team) provides collaborative community-focused intervention strategies to prevent targeted violence among vulnerable populations. In this presentation we will discuss how to improve outcomes when Crisis Response Teams are summoned.
Personal Perspectives: As an Autistic adult with co-occurring mental and physical health challenges, I have had plenty of interactions with first responders. In this talk, I will share my experiences with first responders and offer insight into helpful (and super duper not helpful) approaches when interacting with neurodivergent individuals. We accept Purchase Orders01:45- 02:30
